Alumnus Joe D. Briggs Named National Bar Association's Sports, Entertainment and Arts Lawyer of the Year

WASHINGTON, D.C.
— NFL Players Association (NFLPA) counsel and Florida A&M University (FAMU) alumnus Joe D. Briggs has been named Sports, Entertainment and Arts Lawyer of the Year by the National Bar Association, the oldest and largest association of African-American lawyers and judges. The honor was presented to Briggs on July 17 in Las Vegas.

Initially joining the NFLPA in 2006 as a member of the Financial Programs Department, Briggs currently serves as the organization’s Public Policy Counsel.

Outside of the NFLPA, Briggs is special assistant to the president at the National Bar Association. He also teaches at Georgetown University’s Sports Industry Management program and is a co-founder of IMPACT, an organization focused on enhancing economic empowerment opportunities for emerging leaders.

A scholarship athlete at Texas Christian University earning three varsity letters, Briggs completed a master’s degree at FAMU. He earned his juris doctorate at Florida State University College of Law in 2006.
